- Lead Man Award — Handed out by the Mason Contractors Association of America (MCAA), this award is given to individuals who have “provided exemplary leadership in advancing the masonry industry.” John J. Smith, Sr. earned this award in 2000 when he was chairman of the Mason Institute of St. Louis (MISL). John Sr. is also a member of the MCAA Hall of Fame.
- Masonry Institute of St. Louis – Excellence in Masonry — This award recognizes outstanding achievement in masonry design and construction in the St. Louis region. Smith Masonry earned this award twice: for our work on Plaza in Clayton and the Schneithorst Center.
- International Excellence in Masonry People’s Choice Award — An annual award presented by the MCAA that recognizes outstanding masonry projects from around the world. The award is unique in that it is voted on by the public, rather than a panel of industry experts. Smith Masonry won this award for the Plaza in Clayton.

Safety: Our Top Priority
While we approach every project as a way to showcase our talents and improve the look and function of St. Louis, our first priority will always be the safety of our workers and others on your property. All of our field employees have 10 hours of OSHA training, and each of our supervisors has 30 hours of OSHA training. Our mason tenders continue to train and certify at High Hill Missouri at the training center, reviewing proper techniques. Bricklayers also have continuing training in flashing and grouting installation at the training center in Earth City. We don’t take any chances with the safety of anyone on the premises.
